The only one I found was Russian Learners' Dictionary by Nicholas J Brown (the author of New Penguin Russian Course), but it was incredibly expensive and I couldn't find it on Uz-translations or other websites. Are there other good frequency dictionaries of Russian that I can buy cheaply or download online somewhere?

^^ there are a couple there, for around $6 shipped.

The Living Language company made a "7 Language Dictionary" which has German, Russian, Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Hebrew languages both English- Target language and Target Language to English.

I literally bought mine for $4.00, shipped to my house. Great quality.

The 7 Language Dictionary contains all Common Usage dictionaries, around 20,000 words per language, with example phrases and everything.

I'm not trying to push it, but it is a better deal :)

Here is the link to the dictionary :)

(These are USED of course, but I figure a book is a book as long as all of the information is there :))
best of luck!

Now that I think about it, this one is free and actually pretty good. It's full of example sentences.

A Soviet one was published in the 1970s and used as a source by Brown, though he criticises aspects of it. I forget the author´s name. There was also one published in Sweden, at Uppsala University, I believe. Whether these are any less expensive or more available than Brown´s book, I don´t know. I will try to find out more info.
You could ask a library to order a copy of Brown´s book, if you have a good branch.

The Soviet one was published in 1977, written by L.N. Zasorina. The Swedish one was by Lennart Lonngrenn, 1993. The latter was published by the University of Uppsala and there may be something online.
