I had come across infixes in my linguistic research and I thought it was an interesting idea. I was working on a conlang for fun in my free time and I actually used infixes to conjugate verbs, similarly to Na'vi, except my system was riddled with flaws. =[ However, I think that may be one of the reasons I enjoy the language.
And the more I read about it, the more I agree about the grammar. It's rather interesting for someone used to European languages.

As a side note, English does have an infix. The reason why no one ever mentions it is because it is a certain obscene adjective that starts with F,and thus it doesn't find its way into grammer books. Think about yelling as an interjection "In F---ing credible!" or something along those lines. In a grammatical sense, it does work.

What I find somewhat irritating is that the Na'vi language "pocket guide" on the Avatar site is "compiled by" someone, but doesn't cite sources, so it's impossible to know if any given feature is the author's own interpretation from lines from the film, or something stated categorically by Paul Frommer, the inventor of the language. The only information I've found from the creator himself is here: http://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=1977, and there's a lot more material in the pocket guide. Where does it all come from?

I think the insertion of expletives (usually the F-word) into certain other words and phrases is regarded as tmesis
rather than infixing in English. Another example of tmesis is the phrase "a whole nother".
However, English has some very limited examples of morphological infixing. Mainly,
the "ma" morpheme in words like "edumacation", and the "pe" morpheme in some chemical names.

Anyone have an idea what the linguist got paid to create this language?
I seriously could do that all day, make up a language.
How much fun would that be to get paid to do that?
