When I go to study in Japan, I will be taking a Japanese language placement test.
However, for Japanese 1 and 2, the textbook that they use is Genki 1 and 2, both of which
I have completed and don't really want to take a class where I've gone through the books
already.

What do you think is the best way to ensure that I get put in at least Japanese Speaking
3 or higher, seeing as how the Genki books are the standard for the first two classes and
I have gone through both of them already.

I think you should master the Genki books, every point of it.
And maybe study some more advanced book, just to be more confident of your Japanese.

Second the motion of "Master the Genki Books" That way you will be sure to do your best on the Placement test. Also, start listening to and reading some Japanese books and stories, even if they are very simplistic books meant for children. Try writing your own books also and see how you do.

You might wanna ask around on a Japanese specific forum and contact some other Anglophones who are living in Japan and ask them how the did and what they suggest.

Best of luck.

I used that in university. It's not bad for laying the foundations.
