Can anyone here recommend a good beginner's French monolingual dictionary? I found that German has
dictionaries with Deutsch Als Fremdsprache in the title that were quiet good for intermediate learners.

Thank you

I think you are wise to switch to a monolingual dictionary as soon as possible.

You might consider going straight to “Le Petit Robert”. Its an easy-to-understand and very complete dictionary, by
far the most popular for language students and native speakers alike. If you buy it, you will probably never want to
buy another French dictionary.

I see that they now have an online version for younger French speakers-”Le Robert Junior”. It includes pictures. You
might use that if “Le Petit Robert” is too difficult for you now.

I used to own a good French beginner's monolingual dictionary years ago. I believe it was published in the UK in the 1980s, possibly by Harrap's. It was useful for everyone from the absolute beginner to those with intermediate knowledge. It was illustrated, and had pictures of road signs with exclamation marks next to warning of difficulties, "false friends" and so on. Sorry I don't have more information about it.
Later note: it may have been published by Hodder & Stoughton. I will see if I can track it down.
