Hello I am new here and have been learning languages for a while. I seem to have trouble with Korean. I have no idea where to start and I can not find any resources that really help. I can read Hangul pretty well but can not find a good website or book to make things click. What helped you learn it (if you have). I just want the basics down enough so I can watch Korean television and maybe have a small conversation. Also it helps if that resources are free.

My favourite website is http://korean.sogang.ac.kr/
Also try a podcast http://www.koreanclass101.com/
And Korean has some of the best dramas! :) I love Goong and Coffee Prince
Good luck :)

Welcome! You should do a search for "Professor Arguelles" and "Korean" on this site. He gives a very detailed explanation of precisely how someone ideally should go about learning Korean (and he's a legitimate authority on the subject). It's a thread where the moderator, Francois, is updating the Korean profile--I think it's called "Questions about Korean" or something.

Korean is a fantastic language in that learning the basics will get you no where in your goal of understanding stuff said on TV (unlike languages like English where learning individual words can help you actually understand hollywood movies). You will need to learn it the way that they speak it... the only way to do so is to go to Korea.
