I think you should definitely study it if that's what you want to do. If you have fun
and enjoy your time learning, then why not? Even if you study Georgian for some time,
and then realize it might not be useful for you, there's no harm in that. At best
you'll become fluent in a new language and spend some time in the country; at worst
you'll give up after a few months but still be able to order a beer when you wind up in
Georgia some day.
I want to learn the Romance languages because they interest me, but I am concerned
mostly with the standard languages and not so much the regional dialects. (This will
likely change if/when I move to Italy of course). Naturally it makes sense for me to
learn French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. But I also intend to learn Catalan. Why
Catalan? I don't know. I don't have a particular interest in the Barcelona region over
the rest of Spain. I just want to learn the language some day. It may not be the most
useful, but my outlook is if something can benefit you and you enjoy doing it, then you
are missing out if you don't pursue that goal.

Well, my Georgian is still going strong, and thanks to zhiguki's tip above I've now actually joined a weekly Georgian class taken by a native speaker at a language school here in Tokyo. So simply by writing this post I've been able to make contact with a native speaker, something which I thought would be pretty much impossible.
