I have just started to take a more serious tone in studying Norwegian, but I have been unable to locate a good Norwegian-English dictionary online and am not too sure if I were to purchase a printed one, which one the best option would be. If anyone knows of a reliable online dictionary or has a recommendation for a paper version, I would appreciate your input.

Hello Standtorise,
Frelang.net offers a very good free Norwegian dictionary.
Norwegian > English: 14,088 words
English > Norwegian: 12,975 words
You can download it here:
www.freelang.net/dictionary/norwegian.php
I would advise you to try it for a while and see if fulfills all your needs.
If you still need to buy a printed one, I would recommend that you try this one:
Norwegian-English Dictionary: A Pronouncing and Translating Dictionary of Modern Norwegian (Bokmal and Nynorsk) with a Historical and Grammatical Introduction
Author: Einar Ingvald Haugen
You can view it here:

If you're looking for a print dictionary, I'd recommend Kunnskapsforlagets "Blå ordbok".
Haugen's dictionary is good, but it's only Norwegian-English, and it was published over 35 years ago, so it's bound to be a bit outdated.
If you want something really comprehensive, go for Kunnskapsforlagets Stor norsk-engelsk ordbok and Cappelens store engelsk-norsk ordbok.
Kunnskapsforlaget's dictionaries are available online at www.ordnett.no, but it's a subscription service.
