I know that there are others out there who study while they do some cardio or hit the gym... I was wondering if there are any other distance runners out there who study during their training runs to keep their mind active? What races or marathons are you training for?
I am a novice runnwe using the Galloway method (gallowalking, oh no :)!) to train for finishing my first marathon this spring...

I am training for marathons and triathlons as well and find myself speaking to myself in target languages, especially on my long runs. If I am on a secluded trail, I may even start speaking outloud!
I run for a college team and those of us who are studying the same languages tend to speak that language on runs; it's kind of a weird tradition for my school (Georgetown), but we love it and it really helps us, although it pisses off the people who don't study languages!
Ironically enough, I just found out today that my Russian midterm is the day after the Marine Corps Marathon. Just my luck! Looks like I found the perfect distraction during the race!

I wonder if this has to do with physical activity helping learning occur in the brain.

I am currently running in college, and during most of my easy runs I practice my Spanish with a fellow teammates
that also speak Spanish. I think that the study of languages while working out is a great idea, not only does it help
to pass the time, but it is a great way to get two things done at once. I just wish that more people on my team
spoke foreign languages so that I could practice the others that I am learning.
And, people that don't speak the language I am speaking usually get mad to, but I think its funny!
Matt

Yeah it's definitely always a good time. A lot of the times, we don't realize a) how long we've been speaking the language for and b) how long we have been running for so it's definitely a win-win.
