I was looking into the possibilities of using Skype to improve my language learning in the near future. What got me wondering was how to find language exchange partners. The thread on this site is a great idea, but it has become really long.
Pardon my ignorance, but is slogging through that thread the best way to locate a exchange partner? Or there other links/places one could go to that might help me locate people to talk to in my target language(s)? 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I use sharedtalk.com. It is set up like a chatroom showing who is online, their native language and languages they want to practice in. It's the most convenient way I have found so far.

I'm like you, NJMaverick. The Skype thread seems to hold a place here in the forum -- I mean, why not, it's a language forum -- but it's not often very active. I mean, it had lain dormant for months. Only recently has it been activated. Still, there's no guarantee that any one will be passing through when you post, let alone a native in the language that you want.
Should there be more focus on the language exchange thread? Unfortunately it's a bit hidden. I'm really into language exchange right now. It's surprising that it's not more of a topic here since it really is the way to go for people who want to strengthen their language skills. I wouldn't mind a whole sub-forum for it, with a thread per language pair. It'd be easier to navigate than a single thread with a bunch of information all cluttered up.

Well this fellow's organising it for everybody so it's easily searchable in the first post of the thread. I agree with you though. Actually, it could be done in a similar way - contact details for everybody updated in the first post of the pair thread, then learning issues in both directions could be discussed in the rest of the thread, for everyone's benefit.
