Slight update. Sadly there isn't much to report as much of my free time that I would have liked to have used to study Swedish has been consumed by other things.

One of the major setbacks I have noticed though is my marked inability to pronounce Swedish with any ease at all. This is tripping me up when trying to read, even silently to myself, and so to remedy this I've decided to learn the lyrics to a bunch of songs by my favourite Swedish language group, Otyg. I guess this is sort of like a variation on the well-known shadowing technique. Hopefully this will help me learn to speak Swedish, even if I don't know what I'm saying (yet), and make learning vocabulary, reading the any texts etc. easier. The only drawback I can see from this is that by shadowing songs, I'm not being exposed to Swedish intonation, which I gather is quite different from English. Though if I complement this with the audio from my textbook which is spoken rather than sung, I suppose it won't be too big of a problem.

Hi,
I started learning Swedish by shadowing songs, too :)

If you want to hear spoken Swedish you should try to watch recorded shows at http://www.svt.se (then click on the Play button)

There's a wide range of shows to look at ! My favourite are children (Barn) shows and cooking shows(Fakta & Fritid -- look for anything with Mat or Kök). I think it's easier than listening to the radio because you can see characters and things in context, thus easily find out the meaning of some words and concepts.

good luck !
