You're never too old. I am all most 24 years and am learning Spanish, and going to
learning Greek after that.

Take a deep breath and calm down. Humbert was probably trying to be sarcastic and you've missed it. Let's not start a flame war.

Some people will say it's easier as a little kid. It really isn't, you just don't
remember learning, and it's expected for a small kid to get grammar and vocabulary
wrong.
Adults can learn a language must faster than a little kid, since you've already learned
a language before. You can be grammatically and vocabulary wise in 2 years in a foreign
language on the same level as you were after 15 years in your native language.
It just takes work, and lots of things to memorize. Language learning is not
particularly difficult, it is just time consuming.
The only things childhood is advantageous for are: native accent and not having to
actively work at learning the language.

Let's put it this way; I doubt that most polyglots learned six languages all before they turned twelve.
Accent is harder to pick up because at an older age, people are more set in their ways (including what sounds they can produce with their mouths), but people who start at an older age will understand grammar better in general. So don't worry and be sure to have fun learning!

I'm agreeing with everyone here! You're never too old! I'm 26, still studying Hungarian (have been for a few years now). Once I'm done there, I plan on adding at least another 4 languages to my vocab. I'm guessing I'll be still studying at 40! I don't care. Learning keeps your mind active - and you're never too old to learn!

The English expression is that Humbert's joke "Went way over your head". Out of interest; is there a French Equivalent?

I'll explain how the joke works, because these types of jokes occur very frequently in
colloquial English conversations, so it's useful to know!
Someone will ask a question, to which question the answer seems obvious. The obvious
answer would be "no, 19 is not to old." but instead the poster answered with the answer
that was clearly not true (no, give up now. too old, etc). In doing so he was
sarcastically insinuating that of COURSE 19 is not too old.
hope that helps
