I have a rather strange question. I'm not sure if it deserves a separate topic but for the lack of a place to post I'm making a new one. So here it is:
How do you call the thing you put on the ground in front of your door, in order to keep the dust out ?
Both British and American English suggestions are welcome. I'd also be interested to learn the French and Russian words.
The most ridiculous part of it is that I'm not at all confident what is the Bulgarian word for this. I could possibly use "стелка"... Unfortunately, the same word can be used for a dozen of other things and my attempts to look it up in the dictionary are thus far unsuccessful ;p.

Oh, yes :). Thanks a lot, you saved me a lot of pain searching for it.
I'm curious to learn the word in other languages so more contributions are welcome.
Memory Update: The Bulgarian word is "изтривалка". It dawned on me after reading the phrase "stop using her as a doormat"; There is an identical saying in Bulgarian, lol

Tapete in Mexican Spanish. You can even call it just 'the mat' in English if it's obvious you're refering to a door mat and not a table mat.
