If I complete the following programs will I attain fluency in Portuguese?:

- Cortina Conversational Brazilian-Portuguese
- Berlitz Portuguese Self-Teacher
- Pimsleur's Brazilian Portuguese (I, II, III)
- FSI Portuguese (Volumes I and II)
- Crônicas Brasileiras

Additionally, does anyone have any suggestions regarding the use of these programs, or adding additional
material?

I would recommend LiveMocha (www.livemocha.com) for an additional resource. There you can actively practice your Portuguese through doing a wide variety of lessons and completing speaking and writing exercises that are graded by native speakers. You can also do live chats to practice conversational Portuguese. I really like it and I bet you would too. :)

Funny you mention it, I was doing the Portuguese 101 course on the website a couple of months ago, but didn't
end up completing it. I think I may just do that...

Glad I could help! I had originally gone on Livemocha in February of 2008 when I was still in the beginning stages of learning French and I thought it was a terrible website and ended up forgetting about it. In December 2008, my friend sent me an email saying that she was using a website called Livemocha to learn French. I remembered the name and decided to check it out again. At first glance, it appeared much the same, and I told her that I had already seen that website and thought it was pretty dumb. She replied and said that she was surprised because she really liked it. I took another look and saw how much improved it really was. I was suddenly addicted to the site, always doing lessons, grading other submissions (I am now an English and Spanish tutor and get paid!), and the like. Now we have reversed: I am on all the time and my friend hasn't been on since December. One of the major improvements is that they have added more languages. Since December, they have added Arabic, Korean, Ukrainian, Greek, Portuguese (European), Turkish, Estonian, Dutch, and Polish. More are on the way, too.
