Georgian: cxovreba (c like in Polish, x like German doch)
French: la vie (you know the song, don't you...)
Italian: la vita
Norwegian: liv(et)
Ancient Greek: "zoe" as opposed to death, "bios" more in the sense of existence (sorry no fonts on this pc)

Excellent site for writing in different scripts.

In Latin it is vita, quite the same as in Italian.

"Живот" /zhivot/ in Bulgarian.

The similarity with Czech is striking (život.) The Russian and Polish words seems to be slightly further away (жизнь, życie.)

It's really живот in Bulgarian? This is funny, because in Russian the same word means "belly"... :)

Haha.... that's curious. There are a lot of false cognates between Russian and Bulgarian.

Another (rather stupid) example is "пылесос". It sounds like "chicken sauce" to me, but it's actually vacuum cleaner.

Yes, as I pointed out earlier in this thread život is Cz for life whereas in Russian it means belly.

Żywot means belly also in Old Polish as in the "Hail Mary" prayer: "błogosławiony owoc żywota Twojego"- "blessed is the fruit of thy womb"
