I think this thread has turned into a bit of an "is Assimil any good?" discussion, which as far as I can tell wasn't the question asked in the original post. The original post was asking why the review on http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/e/faq/programs-assimil. html is so negative given that many people rate the method. The real answer to this is that it simply isn't a very good review.
You can love or hate Assimil, but the review presented on that page is absurdly dismissive of the course. I can't fail to read the account of the bookseller's 'ignorance' for recommending Assimil ("one of the worst rip off you can buy") without wanting to smash my computer screen. It's both obnoxious and ill informed and totally out of keeping with the rest of the website which presents some very good information in a reasonable manner. Assimil has its pros and cons, but it is not simply a substandard method that's been marketed at people who don't know any better (as the review implies). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

No, the simple answer is that this site was written by a normal bloke, not a professional. It looks all flash and authoratitive, but when it comes down to it, it's just one guy's opinion.
