But it IS constructive! Depends on the point of view. Simply our goals are different. Conflicting in a sense.
To put it bluntly: your goal is some sense, my goal is some nonsense. Does it make sense to you?
(EDIT)
josht,
I've just realized: you're the sixth person I've pissed off today. I can rest in peace. Bliss! |

So you enjoy making a nuisance of yourself. Okay, then.
Go make a nuisance of yourself by standing in traffic.

If there’s anything annoying about your recent posts, it’s this. I think “they” are muzzling and banning members way too lightly, and I also believe there are way too many willing commissars here. I am not upset at you.

I can understand why someone from Poland would look down on comics. |

What has Poland to do with it? There are as many (statistically) comic lovers in Poland as in Russia, France, Honolulu or Belgrad. And as many half-wits, too. |
|

About half-wits I’d agree but you might as well mention that water is wet. Therefore you’re simply provoking. Some countries have very strong comic book cultures, others don’t. France produces and consumes more comics than Russia, Poland and many other countries combined. Korea consumes an awful lot of comics. Belgrade is likely to have more comic lovers than Warsaw.

I will have to admit I agree with some points made by both Reineke and Ibanezfire.
Ibanezfire was right about the leaning thing, I was actually leaning towards French at first, but didn't want to influence the advice I was given, as I believe that my inclination towards completing a route through romance languages was not relevant in the discussion about which would actually be the better language for me to learn. I think that just because I was leaning towards French does not mean that the track cannot change, so to speak..

Forgive me for my naïveté but I really do not see the big fuss regarding the infamous atamgawarui. In reality, what has he/she done that is so bad? Last time I checked a certain amount of provocation is inevitable when conflicting views are presented. And quite frankly I found the last few posts on this thread highly amusing.
I really think some people should relax and realise that there are more overtly unproductive members of this forum than atamgawarui. With the exception of the good Professor's work the L-R thread alone has probably hooked more people onto this site than any other.

I think you have a great point here. Russians apparently aren't big on "fun" things as far as literature and entertainment is concerned. Whenever I seek out suggestions for books, TV shows, movies, etc., they only want to recommend classics or mini-series based on classics. It's pretty annoying, frankly. I'd hate to go to a bookstore there and only find serious, depressing stuff.
I'm not quite sure if the people I talk to are just elitist, or if there's an actual shortage of light-hearted/fun material.

chelovek, be sure, a good deal of bookstores are occupied with a throwaway detective comedy or womens novels. :) How's her name .... Darya Dontsova, the only one I remembered. I guess their trademarks aren't famous yet, they're hard to remember. :) Educated people, even if they read this, don't call it "literature". Who's educated or pretends to be, reads Pelevin, Minaev ("Духless", "The Тёлки" etc.)
The other reason must be that it's hardly accessible from abroad, and we're not a tourist attraction.
I can send you by post some of this junk from my mother's reserves. xD She won't notice.

You got several "funny" suggestions in your Russian & Portuguese TV thread, or am I wrong?
Maybe people prefer to suggest what stands apart of their country instead of funny things that you can find everywhere. Besides, often cheap humour is too tied to one country or one culture to be understood or appreciated by foreigners, or so they may think.
Why do you use the word "elitist"?
