Well said Lizzern :-) I totally agree. I am Swedish and I never listen to the type of music that's being referred to!

I'll follow Liz example and speak up for ---- DUTCH. It sounds incredibly cool! It's one of the coolest languages in Europe! Haven't you heard all the unusual sounds in the Dutch language? Plus it's got the bonus that a lot of the grammar and words when written down can be recognised from other languages. Dutch is definitely cool!

Regarding the coolness of Poland: Well Polish women tend to be really good looking, LOTS of supermodels are from there. Everyone who goes to Krakow thinks it's a great city for just about everything.. Personally I've always had a high opinion of the country and the people. Poles in general are more intellectual and well-read than most Europeans according to my experience.

I like almost all languages and all cultures. But let me say what languages are cooler than the cultures from my pesrspective:

Language cooler than the culture: Bantu languages and Scandinavian languages.

Culture cooler than the language: Fino-Ugric languages and Mongolian.

Regarding Poland and Polish culture: I never met Polish people face to face, but I noticed that they are genius. Polish, Germans, and British are the most genius people in Europe. (Russians also are genius, but I don't consider them Europeans, they belong to their own world!)

But I don't like the Polish language.

I know it probably wasn't intentional, but I found that absolutely hilarious! Fortunately, for me, I am very attracted to both Russia and the Russian language.

As for me, I'd say Arabic. The language is beautiful. I personally think the Arabic script is the most aesthetically pleasing writing system in the world. Additionally, spoken Arabic is filled with these masculine guttural sounds that I find very exotic. On the other hand, the culture is just frightening. Perhaps my misunderstanding of Islam is acting as a cultural block, but I simply find Arab culture too distant for my taste. Maybe this will change when I actually visit a country where Arabic is spoken. :)

I enjoy speaking the French language but French culture does not interest particularly. I am far more interested in Quebec, Belgian and West African cultures. I wonder if that is similar to a Frenchman who is only interested in Australian and New Zealand cultures?

In my humble opinion Montreal is the nicest city in the world. I almost got stabbed in Paris.

I'd love to learn Arabic some day, but as a single woman I don't feel that Middle Eastern cultures have much to offer me. That's because I learn languages for the prospect of being able to go to countries and learning about a culture by socially integrating, rather than from a distance through history and literature.

I agree with you:

But the sounds of the language isn't that cool.

Which one?

There is no one Arabic culture. There are Arabic cultures, they are diverse, and the difference between some of them is very large.

The Arab world is wider than the whole Europe. It is as wide as a continent like Antarctica (14 million sq km.) and its 340 million population straddling two different continents, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Arabian Sea in the east, and from the Mediterranean Sea in the north to the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean in the southeast.

It consists of 25 countries and territories!

In countries like Lebanon or Tunisia, you see the Mediterranean culture like Greece, Malta, and Cyprus. In some parts of Sudan and Somalia (the latter is a member if the Arab league) you see the African culture. In some countires in the Gulf, they are closer to the Persian and the Indian culture (in music, cuisine, and some aspects of the language etc.) than to other Arab cultures like those in Egypt, Levantine, or North Africa.

Sometimes in the same country you see big difference between different parts of that country like Yemen or Egypt.

Even historial, the culture of the Arab Bedouins in the deserts, is very different than the culture of the Arab farmers along the rivers of the Nile, Tigris, and the Euphrates.

Why?

Go to Tunisia, Syria, Lebanon, or Egypt and see yourself.

I have an eager to learn a new foreign language as everyone herein. But the culture-factor do really affect me while in researching process of a foreign language.

According to my own tastes, far-east languages are charming. I addict to Asian culture. And i want to learn Japanese. But learning this language (especially the writing code) seems like a burden.

On the other hand, i wanted to learn Russian as a second foreign language. But something related with the target language's culture makes me falter when learning this language. Mostly the pronounciation of the phonemes and/or imagination of these sounds in a way of its culture indispose me much.

I find French culture so incredibly uninteresting, The only reason I wanna learn it is to be more Canadian(I wanna learn a heritage language), however I'm more interested in German. However Germany is so far away and I don't know a single German.
