I spent 6 months in Japan and didn't see any homosexual couple showing how much they loved each other in public places.
But don't worry! I didn't see any couple doing something as innocent as a kiss either, so I guess you wouldn't have any problems there if you acted like Japanese people.

I disagree. They are quite conservative. Behind closed doors, thing are different of course. But when you say
extravagant, I'd expect things like a big red light district in every major city, partial nudity on beaches, dressing
very provocatively, rampant public displays of affection, etc. Japan isn't like that.
To the OP - I recommend Thailand. Gays, or at least lady-boys, are practically national heros there. You will be
warmly welcomed. And Thai is an extremely interesting and beautiful language.

"Lady-boys" is not the same as "homossexual".
Keep that in mind.

In Germany it is totally accepted. No problem at all (in the cities, I have never lived on the countryside, so I don't know about that). Oftentimes, one can see gay couples walking around at Alexanderplatz, Hackesche Markt, and Mitte in general. But this usually changes in places like Neukölln or Kreuzberg with a high population of middle eastern immigrants, though.
There are no laws against homosexuality in Turkey, but it is not accepted. Well, there are a few publicly accepted trans- and homosexuals (Kusum Aydin, Bülent Ersoy), but usually homosexuality is not accepted.
It is different in big cities like Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara though.
But as usually, you keep a low profile and don't tell anybody you are homosexual => no problem.
I really don't know about Arabian countries, but what I guess is that Beirut is the "most-tolerant" Arabian city, it's justa guess though.
Regards,
Ilhan

Yes, I am aware of this. Everything is calm and decent on the surface. When I say "extravagances", I really mean unholy perverted activities beyond imagination. Of course, all of them performed in private ( or better still, expressed in Hentai comic strips, not the physical world)
( Disclaimer: I don't have anything against unholy activities. )
( This is all off-topic, the thread is not about Japan :P. )

Japan has become pratically a synonim for sexual extravagances. I mean, just name your fetish. Aliens, robots, tentacles? They have it all, and they have it good. Plus some things I am a tad bit afraid of mentioning here on this forum.
Sure, I am not saying people elsewhere are less perverted. But a lot of the perverted media production comes from Japan. Which is very interesting considering that they are probably the most well-behaved people on such matters. A simple kiss is already considered inapropriate behavior when in public. People from Japan tell me even holding hands is kinda frowned upon depending on where you are.
Just remember, when reading the above, that correlation does not imply causation.

As for Brazil, I really don't think one would have any problems regarding sexual preference. I can't say prejudice and even violence is unheard of, though.
I've never been anywhere else, so I can't compare exactly how tolerant Brazil is. But I would say "a lot". Unless you are in some very small town.

They are men who have sex with men. What is your definition of homosexual?
