Call me silly.

Nothing, it is a parasitic topic with no relevance whatsoever ;p. Paradoxically, it is these topics that become most popular.

Well, I'm not gay either, but I realized a long time ago that homosexuality can't be a
choice (who in their right mind would choose to be homosexual with all the stigma and
prejudice and danger that confront gay people? And how can you choose who you are
attracted to? I can't even choose what type of girls I'm attracted to, choose to be
attracted to other guys. It seems clear to me that people just realize what they're
attracted to - they don't choose it.) This is so elementary, so obvious once you
think about it - it amazes me that so few people take a minute or two to realize it.
Once you do so, you'll agree that it's not a matter of "agreeing" or disagreeing with
homosexuality. Homosexuality is a fact of life, just like race or ethnicity - it's
simply the way some people are wired from birth - they can't help it - they are
attracted to the same sex whereas most people are attracted to the opposite sex. And
so it is a matter of understanding and acceptance, rather than "agreeing with". Best
regards.

beastiality can't be a choice (who in their right mind would choose beastiality with

Well, I'm not a child molester either, but I realized a long time ago that pedophilia
can't be a choice (who in their right mind would choose to be a pedophile with all the
stigma and prejudice and danger that confront pedophiles? And how can you choose who
you are attracted to? I can't even choose what type of girls I'm attracted to, choose
to be attracted to children. It seems clear to me that people just realize what
they're attracted to - they don't choose it.) This is so elementary, so obvious once

Perhaps it was meant to be a joke, but I find it hardly funny. If you really can't see
the difference between two mature men or two mature women who decide to live together
and pedophiles who abuse children, then I think you shouldn't enter any serious
discussion.

The post was not intended to be a joke. I was hoping to point out faulty logic by replacing words but keeping the same line of reasoning.

The topic of safty in target language countries is a legitimate one. Trying to normalize abnormal behavior is not. Posting such agenda's should not go unanswered otherwise it promotes a degeneration of society (IMO). But no matter what ones views on the topic, I hope we can all agree that personal safety should not be threatened. One should be aware of threats and how to minimize risks.

- Peace -

And who, pray tell, are you to decide what kind of behaviour is normal and which is
not? Unfortunately, I don't see a relation between "degeneration of society", "threats
and risks to the personal safety" and homosexuals. In my most honest opinion, you use
words which convey no real meaning. I'm sorry, but I think it is the homophobia that
is a mental illness, and not homosexuality. If there is a love between two men or two
women, no one has the right to tell them what they should (not) do. Simply no one can
tell two mature men or women who they should be in love with.

You have every right to your opinion. These opinions have nothing to do with language learning. However, if they are brought up, they may very well be challenged with an opposing view.

The relationship between personal safety in target language countries and homosexuality was the point of this whole thread.

I'd just like to point out that I wasn't the one who "brought up" the topic.

Someone posted that he "didn't agree with" homosexuality, in spite of the OP pointing out in the very first post that this isn't a place to discuss whether you agree or disagree with it. I was responding to that person.

I'm not gay myself, and I certainly don't have any "agenda" to cause "social degeneration" (whatever that is) or promote homosexuality (as if that were even possible - jeez!). Even gay people who want to heterosexual aren't able to make that change, so I don't know how some people think that more and more people are going to "become gay" if society fights bigotry and promotes tolerance of homosexuals.

To promote hatred by arguing that gays are "abnormal and a threat to society" and then say that their "personal safety should not be threatened" just sounds disingenuous to me. Why do you think gay people have to fear for their safety in the first place? It's because views like these (as well as the Torah, Bible and Koran) legitimate hatred and violence against them.
