I believe that classroom learning is useful to a limited degree; the most useful aspects of a classroom are providing a non-threatening environment where one can practice speaking the language, and for the beginning pronunciation of a language (for certain more difficult-to-pronounce languages, books tend to be vague and not descriptive enough to be effective in teaching the pronunciation).
