I was speaking French in a dream last night, and I spoke it more fluently than I do in real life. And no, I wasn't speaking gibberish while merely imagining I was more fluent -- I remembered some of the sentences I said in my dream after I woke up and they were very well-formed grammatically. I was quite impressed with myself I must say.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Yes. Sometimes I fall asleep in front of the TV (in French), and as I'm sleeping my brain attaches meaning to what I'm hearing, so I dream that I'm clearly understanding 100% of the rapid French dialogue- which is unfortunately not yet the case in my waking life. I haven't yet dreamt that I spoke with perfect fluency, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

I think it's a good sign, because it means that your brain is remembering and storing grammatical constructions that you've heard in real life, even if you're not quite confident in using them yet.

I happens to me all the time. And each time I wake up, I wish I could still sound perfectly American LOL. Don't worry too much about that :)

Yep it's happened to me, too. More recently in French, though I can no longer remember what I was saying. I remember what I'd said when I woke up, and it made sense. It's always a nice motivational booster that seems to show the language has made room for itself in your brain somewhere so that you can now start to use it subconsciously. I find this tends to happen once I reach the level where I can think in the language. Perhaps the more I think in it and hear it, the more likely I am to induce a dream in that particular language.

Yes, it has happened to me in Spanish.
I think it depends on the person because I have a Bulgarian friend and she's only had one dream in English that she can remember, and she speaks English perfectly.

Well, I've never spoken German in my dreams, but I remember I had dreams when someone
was speaking German to me. But I can't be sure if that was German without any
mistakes. Perhaps our subconsciousness learns foreign languages faster than we do?
It's just a thought :-)

It's definitely happened to me. What happens more often is that sometimes I try to "think" in Spanish (that is, talk
to myself as I'm doing things in Spanish). I am usually way more fluent in my own head than aloud.
