The US governement now offers language immersion abroad for young people to study strategic languages: National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y), a program that aims to get high school and gap year students studying Arabic, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Farsi, Turkish, and Russian in immersive environments.
Ah, you ask, where do they do immersion for Farsi? Tadjikistan.
I find this really intriguing and although I don't have more information myself, some of our forum members are studying on NSLI-Y grants as we speak.
You can use this thread to discuss this program.

As the current resident NSLI-Y (pronounced like the chocolate) scholar, I'd be happy to answer any questions about the program, and I would encourage those of you who are between 14 and 18 years of age to consider applying if you're interested in one of the languages mentioned above. The program has its flaws, but overall, it's been a good experience so far.
And I must admit, I would have jumped at the chance to go to Tajikistan if there was a year program offered there. As it is, I ended up in Egypt.
