Warning: If you are a believer or follower of the "splitters" in comparative linguists (e.g. Lyle Campbell, Larry Trask, William Poser et al.), you may be apt to write this site off as an example of linguistic quackery.

While doing some research for articles on Proto-Uralic, I came across this Russian site which deals with the long-distance comparative linguistics. The link "E-Library" at the left leads to a long list of articles (mainly in .pdf and in English, but some are in German or Russian) put out by linguists on various proto-languages or hypotheses about long-range comparisons. While one can have reservations about the findings or the methods used, it's always valuable to examine the field from a different angle and with an open mind. Some of the articles that I've read there are thought-provoking, and have made me rethink further the motivation of certain linguists who snidely try to discredit or discourage those who are willing to do research in ways outside conventional boundaries. Perhaps the sniping and disparaging is there to protect the integrity or value of their own conclusions or mindsets, rather than the integrity of the discipline itself. It's also fascinating (at least for me) to see the large amount of data that these types of research papers need and reveal.

www.nostratic.net doesn't seem to be working at the moment. Try www.nostratic.ru instead.
