in translation - Does language influence culture?
An interesting article on the links between language and how speakers of different tongues perceive the world.
This question and notion has interested me for a while now, as I'm sure it has many others, why for example do
some languages have unique words for a particular thing, feeling or situation whilst others do not. What does
this say about the language and it's speakers? Perhaps only that a particular thing, feeling or situation was not an
important enough aspect of the life of a specific peoples to be granted it's own word, and that it was important
enough or atleast meaningful for anothers. Therefore this may show, however subtlely, the 'personality' and
'character' of a people through it's language, where one finds a certain word or phrase that alludes to something
perhaps only known by that people.
Hmm lots to think about....
