I has just looked at the closed thread "Gay and a Polyglot" I wondered what everyone thinks about the sexuality of Sir Richard Burton. Because he investigated homosexual brothels in India and his relationship with Lady Isabel Burton was somewhat odd - he seemed to spend long periods of time away from her and did not seem particularly concerned about this. many writers have appeared to wonder if he was gay or bisexual ; there is the famous quote about pack and follow which he is supposed to have said to her. What are your opinions on the subject? And does any know the methods Sir Richard Burton used to learn his languages?

There are several threads about Richard Burton in this forum, for example this one. He seemed to mostly rely on rote learning.
See also this archived article. As for his personal life I fail to see how this is relevant to language learning.
