There appears to be so much French pop music in the 80s: Arnold Turboust & Zabou- Adelaide, Guesch Patti - Etienne, Elli Medeiros - Toi mon toit, Desireless - Voyage Voyage, Vanessa Paradis - Joe le taxi, Caroline Loeb - C'est la ouate, Gouts de Luxe - Omaha Beach, etc. etc. etc.
But I couldn't find anything comparable it terms of quality (or kitsch) that was made in Germany or other German-speaking countries (except for Silicon Dream). Propoganda sang in English. :( I like the Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft, but it's something quite different from what I'm looking for...

99 Luftballoons by Nena, from 1983. It was later recorded in English, but the original version was German.

Really? I think music in German has never been more popular than today! I'll open a new thread about this because it's interesting in its own right...

Somehow I forgot all about Nina Hagen when I was making this thread. Here she is giving a crash course in German. :)
There's also Kraftwerk who were particularly prominent when the 80s began. They appear to have influenced a lot of German and English speaking artists of later times.
