Does anyone here listen to Carnatic music (the classical music of South India)? I'm
trying to get into it at the moment, although not having been formally taught and thus
not understanding many of the crucial technical aspects makes it difficult to appreciate
properly. There are compositions in all four major Dravidian languages (although
Malayalam ones are a bit rare) as well as Sanskrit, so it is something that learners
should definitely check out. I would post some links to songs on YouTube, but I'm not
sure if that is allowed.

Hi,
I liked BMK's rendition of 'vatapi ganpatim' in hamsadhwani?
I prefer Hindustani khyal though, probably because I can understand the words.
Do you listen to khyal too?
Best,
Napoleon
EDIT: fixed a typo :)

I have listened to a few khyal pieces, but I think I prefer dhrupad (especially when
played on the Rudra Veena).

I'm not hugely into BMK. I like his rendition of "Sadhinchene" and some other kritis, but
for "Vatapi Ganapatim", you really need to listen to Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar's
version.
