Hi all!
I am interested in finding an Italian series (drama, telenovela etc) that I can follow from day to day to keep up with my listening to native materials. Are there any good websites that stream such TV? It would have to be an "on-demand" sort of site, as my timetable does not allow for regular viewing at the same time each day. I've seen a few Italian series. I've yet to fall in love with any of them, but there are a few that are good for everyday language.
I Cesaroni is a family drama/comedy which is sometimes funny and sometimes cheesy, and all the episodes can be watched on-demand on the Mediaset site. Some of the dialogue is a bit non-standard (Roman) but it's easy enough to understand. It's not amazing but it's watchable enough and it's about the best thing I've found in terms of everyday conversational speech and free legal availability. Camera Café (originally a French series, but there's also an Italian version, and various other languages) can be fun; it's comedy and the episodes are around 3 to 10 minutes long so it's good if you don't have lots of time. If you search for "camera café" on DailyMotion you'll find lots of Italian episodes. Boris is a good comedy that parodies drama/telenovelas, although I don't know of any streaming sites for it. Several Italian people have told me they like it, which is a sign of approval since they tend to have quite a low opinion of their own TV (not surprising if you've ever watched the likes of Rai 1...). A friend recommended Romanzo Criminale, the series based on the film. I've yet to watch the series but I've heard great things and I enjoyed the film a lot, so it's on my list. I don't know if it's available for streaming. There's loads of stuff on the RAI and Mediaset sites, but much of it is limited to Italy only, and I've tried working around it with things like Hola but not had much luck. Maybe you'll find something you like there, but they are older of course, not too current. On the other hand RAI's Italian may be just what a student needs. Although I haven't watched the whole show, it's quite good for Italian tv standards. Another choice would be choosing a foreign series. Italian dubbing may be one of the best in the World, and they translate almost everything. If you like Scrubs, for instance, the adaption is great. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

La Piovra is a nice classic series. I've seen it on greek tv, it was years ago. I think it was based on a real story, but how much I can't say :)

I didn't care much for Italian television while I lived there, and I hated hearing dubbed versions of foreign films, but since your goal is to learn Italian, it may well be an option worth exploring. I know for a fact that you can find pretty much anything that aired on their TV, on let's say, "less official" sources, which means you can watch whenever and wherever it pleases you... ;) Grab some Italian subs for the same source and you're good to go! I've found it hard to find Italian series too. But I second the recommendation for La Piovra (I've seen the first season
and it was pretty well-done. I've heard the production values are better in later seasons). I've also heard good things about Don Matteo, a show about a priest who solves crimes in Perugia.
