I am going to list several language-learning systems and techniques I am aware of (and may own or
use). I would appreciate your comments on any or all of them. Please let me know if there are some
good systems or techniques I am leaving out, or some I mention that may not be worth my time.
Although I am specifically interested in Spanish for now, a lot of the systems on the market are
produced for several languages. Any help is greatly appreciated.

In no particular order:

Systems

Teach Yourself [language]
Michel Thomas
Pimsleur
Marcus Santamaria products (Synergy Spanish, Bola de Nieve 1 and 2, etc.)
Learning [language] Like Crazy
Rocket [language]
Rosetta Stone
studyspanish.com
spanishpod.com
spanishpod101.com

Techniques

Shadowing (Dr. Arguelles)
Scriptorium (Dr. Arguelles)
Reading bi-lingual texts (Where can I obtain these?)

Systems? To me it looks rather as a list of courses for the larger part. The short answer is many. There is a
lot of great resources fully in the target language, there is a lot of native sources to use (heavy use of books,
movies, tv series, audiobooks etc is currently one of the things many learners on htlal useto great success).
For much more information, look into the g search function, into various subforums and especially the logs.

Just off the top of my head. Courses:
Assimil
Colloquial Series
FSI
lingq.com
Living Language

Techniques:

Listening-Reading

Bilingual texts. You can buy books like that. You can make your own using books that are in the public domain and are available on the internet for free.

To find out more about what people use and do, just read this forum for a bit.

I don't think in terms of "systems", but rather resources. In addition to the ones already listed here, I like:

Destinos
VeinteMundos
italki (for language partners, text correction and tutors)
lang-8 (for text correction)
conversation exchange (for language partners)
Notes in Spanish
Duolingo
Practice Makes Perfect (grammar workbook - not free)
native materials: songs, novels, news, podcasts, TV shows, movies, blogs, social media

My approach is pretty simple. I try to hit all four skills every day: read something, write something, listen to
something and talk to someone. Include a bit of vocabulary study every day, and I believe that the synergy of
using multiple resources will help you advance more quickly than using just one course.
