I can think of two that I would actually use:
1. A simplified SRS / Anki-type program. I like the idea of Anki, but I find that I spend far more time building and managing a deck than actually studying. I don't want or need all the options it has. I had to search the forums for instructions every time I wanted to do anything. I want something simple, where I can go online and input (or delete) my sentences, and then I can review them flashcard- style on my phone. I want something with only two options: L1>L2 or L2>L1. 2. A language tracker. I use one for the gym, off and on. It's simple (see a pattern here?) - I hit the icon, and choose whether to input my weight, my workout, etc. I can do it all in a couple seconds. I like the twitter bot that we use in the 6wc and super challenges a lot, and the personal graphs we can make are fantastic. I don't mind logging on to twitter and typing @languageapplication I #studied #language for 30 minutes with #assimil - but after about four weeks of logging everything for the 6WC I am over it. It's not sustainable (for me) over the long term. But if I could set up my categories ahead of time, and just hit the icon & enter the time spent (or pages read, or lessons completed)? I like the idea of a quick and simple language tracker app, one that allows you to set up categories and templates ahead of time, and then just add the minutes and push a button on your phone. Weekly or fortnightly stats would also come in handy when posting blogs.
Incidentally, kanewai, which app do you use for the gym? I used to use Fitocracy a while back, and am thinking of logging my exercises again. At the moment, my wife and I just stick bronze/silver/gold stars on a wall calendar ("old skool" style *lol*)... Don't know if you're on Android or not, but there's an app called Memento that does all this. It's a generic database with designable forms for a front end. It also hooks into gdocs' graphing capabilities and has great filtering. I use if to track all sorts of things, including your uses. R. == 2 persons have voted this message useful | ||||||

Kanewai's thought on reducing the time spent creating anki decks to have more time left
for using them is a good one. What I would love to have for this is an easy option to search a dictionary online and just push a simple button "add to anki", that would help me immensely as I use mostly L1->L2 cards. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Not quite as simple as you're describing, but simpler than Anki, is Flashcards Deluxe: http://flashcardsdeluxe.com/Flashcards/
iOS-only, but ATracker does exactly what you've described. I've been very happy with it: http://www.wonderapps.se/atracker/ I've divided my language-learning activities into the 4 common "categories" (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) plus interacting. This allows me to see the breakdown per activity *or* see a roll-up per category. Which in turn keeps me honest and on the ball about doing enough practice for each skill. :) 4 persons have voted this message useful |
