Hi. I want to clarify the different ways to obtain the FSI BASIC Spanish courses. I realize that lots of libraries have the old versions with cassette tapes.
The FSI site has available: volume 1. Both text and audio. The FSI site has available: text only vol. 2 The FSI site does not have anything available for volumes 3 or 4. When buying some language programs, an incentive is thrown in that includes volumes 3 and 4. I got both these volumes when I purchased LSLC...both audio and text. I know that Barrons Mastering Spanish has volume 1 and volume 2 available in bookstores and over the net, about 50$ online versus 80$ at my local Barnes and Noble for each volume individually. I think Loquella might have volume 2 on their site, but I'm not interested in doing it with their method, tied to the computer and having to make hundreds and hundreds of clicks with the mouse, etc. So my question is this: in order to obtain volume 2 of FSI BASIC Spanish do I have to purchase the Barrons version? I'm guessing you're asking about FSI Basic Spanish, right?
The pdf files for volume 3 & 4 have been put on a download site. The addresses are listed here on the fsi-language-courses forum. Loquella has the audio for volume 2, 3 & 4 available to download, about $50 each. Of course, you could try Programmatic Spanish instead. Hey, thanks for the response. Yeah, the Spanish courses.
I just had a look at the 4 levels available for download at the Loquella site for 50$ each, and it appears that the level 1 that is available at the FSI site isn't complete. The FSI site has units 1-9, and they appear to coincide perfectly with the first 9 lessons at the Loquella site. However, at the Loquella site they continue all the way to lesson 15. Take into consideration that level 4 at Loquella ends with lesson 55, and that the volume 4 of FSI BASIC also ends with lesson 55, I'm surprised that part of volume 1 at the FSI site is missing. I mean, if they're going to put the volume up there, why not put it all there? Why just the first 9 units? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Thanks for the help, but I don't get a good feeling after looking at the site.
Looks too good to be true over there. No real info on the company either. I wouldn't feel comfortable sending any money without some kind of positive verification that someone already had successful results buying from them. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Have you considered going to your local public library and doing an inter-library loan?

I just purchased an FSI Spanish Level 1 course from a bookshop here, but it's only got 12 units in it (the back of the book lists vocabulary words for 15 units), so I'm a little confused as to how many there are supposed to be. I haven't started it yet as I'm still working through Pimsleur, so maybe it will become apparent as I go through, but now it seems like it's missing the last three units.

Most public libraries will get material from other libraries for free. They search for the material via www.worldcat.org and make a request. See the wikipedia entry for "Interlibrary loan" It might take a month or so. I've received FSI audio tapes this way. Ask your local public librarian. 1 person has voted this message useful |
