I read the following online;
Subjunctive II can be used as a replacement for Subjunctive I (when the Subjunctive I form and the indicative form are identical) Sie sagten, sie hätten ihn gesehen. They said they had seen him. My question is, what would you say if you wanted to say the following in reported speech using Subjunctive I? Die Leute: "Wir hätten ihn gesehen!" Sie sagten, .... What would you say if you wanted to say the following in reported speech using Subjunctive I?
Sie sagten, sie haben ihn gesehen. This looks like indicative, but you would see the difference in the singualar: er sagte, er habe ihn gesehen. The forms are: ich habe du habest er habe wir haben ihr habet sie haben So you see, some forms ressemble the indicative and may be replaced by the subjunctive II. 1 person has voted this message useful |
