I know that we all loved to hate the previous versions of Rosetta Stone, but Version 3 is really impressive. It's no longer tedious and boring, and the courses are unique for each language (as opposed to just being interchangeable sets of pictures and words). It's a lot more structured now, and right off the bat you learn practical stuff.

You no longer have to go through dozens of lessons before learning "I, you, we", and they modified the teaching method so that the things you learn actually stick.

Highly recommended.

Thanks for the tip. I doubt I'll ever use it anyway, but it's nice to know they're making an effort. Every past incarnation of Rosetta Stone I've used, I thought was utterly horrendous.

I think that it would be great to use an improved version. The one I used for German turned me off it.

Thanks for the info chelovek.

Shalom,
Yehoshua.

The Korean (version 2) turned me off as well...

I've been using the Russian (version 3) one, and like it somewhat, but it's hard to get used to... it very different than any language learning method I've used before. So I"m using it together with more standard books etc.

Russian is still probably better suited to straightforward grammar explanations, but it's safe to say that the program is no longer oblivious to how confusing grammar can be. I have the Italian version, and it does a good job of showing grammar rules without reverting to English. Is that the same case with Russian?

Some ways yes, some ways no... in terms of gender etc. it doesn't really does a good job, and I had to reference that in the book I am using. Other grammar such as plural etc. is okay. In all I wouldn't use the rosetta stone alone but with other material as well that has better grammar explanations as you pointed out as well.

Actually if you go to the courses on LiveMocha, they are structured more or less similar in some ways so using them combined with other material might be as good and cheaper...

Me just the Russian and the French one. I thought the french might help me to get back some of my french, haven't been at it long enough to have an opinionon it though.
