I bought the Version 2 for Russian. I liked it, but it wasn't worth the $300. I ended up getting a refund. All of this was about a month before Version 3 came out. I would really like to have Version 3 for either Russian or Spanish. But the price is just WAYYY too much.

I just started the Russian V.3 program. I think it's generally better than the previous version——which I successfully used to learn the basics of German——but is severely lacking in one essential aspect: writing. This was the strongest point of V.2. Before moving on to the next lesson, one must be able to write every single word of the previous one through dictation. It really does wonders for your listening, spelling and vocabulary. The V.3 section on writing is minuscule.

Some of the US public libraries give access to the online version of Rosetta Stone (v2 I believe) for free. I've seen about 6 or 8 languages available. The good thing is that you can access RE from your home, just log in to your public library's electronic catalogue and choose Rosetta.
Some of the libraries don't protect their Rosetta Stone access pages... or so I've heard.

I'm enjoying the new Rosetta Stone also. Can't really complain about the price when I get it for free, either.
I'm speeding through unit four of the first level of Spanish and while it is 1000% better than v2, I'd still want a typical beginners book to supplement it (this would be even more important with a language that is more divergent from English, especially if one had no prior knowledge), if only because I like the whys of things. As it is, I'm getting a great review from the first level, as well as an occasional introduction to new material. I imagine as I get into levels 2 and 3 it'll be harder going.
I'd say the best thing about Rosetta Stone is that what you learn from it is practically carved into your bones with repetition. They've struck a pretty good balance with teaching new material at a good clip while still reviewing the old stuff consistently enough that you don't forget it.

The short answer is no. You need to activate the software using the cd keys you are given. I'm pretty sure as soon as you do that and register the software, RS will not allow someone else to use the same cd keys.
You could try not registering the software and then maybe your friends would then be able to use it, but you would most likely be breaking copyright infringment laws.
I'm sure RS will allow you to install their software on multiple computers if say you own a laptop and a desktop, but they do not allow you to share it with other people.
And since this is not a place to talk about pirating, I suggest you just let your friends borrow your laptop if you want your friends to be able to use it.

I think the important question is "can multiple people use it on one computer"?
I know some software will only run under one named user, which is a royal nuisance to families. Why should families have to buy the same software twice if all family members want to use it?
