Assimil has an English-based version of L'Italien sans peine (Italian with Ease). So no problem there.

I have just gotten a hold of L'italien sans peine and, while I have not used it enough to tell, so far it seems very good indeed.

What exactly is that? Is it audio, or like a workbook that you can progress through?
I forgot to mention that I also have pimsleur, but I don't really rate it as been all that effective.

Assimil as reviewed by ProfArguelles.
Basically, it's tapes and accompanying reading material/oral exercises. It starts off listening to texts and reading along with them, and eventually works up to some interactive stuff. I find it very useful.

After finishing all three levels of Pimsleur, I worked through Assimil's Italian with Ease and it was good. I recommend it. It has around 100 or so lessons, so you can break it down and create goals for yourself. Before that, I bought a couple textbooks on learning Italian designed for a classroom setting. I couldn't stand them. If I didn't get Assimil, I probably would've gotten nowhere.
Now I'm working through Perfectionnement Italien, the advanced Italian course offered by Assimil. My French is on par with my Italian and I look up the unknown words in a dictionary, wordreference.com, so I can figure out the meaning. So far it's working great.

I am just finishing Assimil's Italian with Ease. It really is a phenomenal textbook. My only gripe is that the Using Italian text (follow on to Italian with ease) is not available in English and my French is relatively non-existent. Fortunately, I am going to Rome on vacation in three weeks so I will get some good practice and I will pick up lots of good reading material to follow on.

Don't forget to also get some matching audiobooks (if available) for extra practice.

Patuco,
Thanks for the suggestion. I will do that. By the way, have you read the first Harry Potter book in Italian? I am curious if I could get through it without too much trouble after Assimil. I have also done all three levels of Michel Thomas, all three levels of Pimsleur Comprehensive Italian, and Linguaphone.
Thanks,
Jon
