Opinions on Pimsleur Arabic | ||

I'm a Modern Standard Arabic student at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. I've been studying full-time for one year, and I'm going to graduate from the program in February. After graduation, I'm hoping to expand my proficiency in Arabic by moving on to dialect, although I haven't firmly decided on which yet. The Pimsleur courses in Levantine and Egyptian have caught my eye, but I'm wondering how useful these courses will be for someone who already speaks MSA. How advanced are they? Could someone share their experience with these programs please, preferably someone like me, moving into them from MSA? Thanks.

They aren't very useful if you already know MSA to the extent that you will when you graduate. The CDs will go over a lot of stuff that you'll already know and you'll get really bored with them. I speak from first hand experience. The best place to learn some dialects that I've found is the Joint Language University http://jlu.wbtrain.com/.
