My understanding is that the FSI methodology is based upon, in large part, memorizing dialogs. Please correct
me if I'm wrong, but this is called the audio-lingual method? Regardless, I believe that FSI does incorporate the
audio-lingual method, and that FSI also incorporates memorizing dialogs.

I have seen posts in various places on the Net that say that the audio-lingual method is no longer advocated.
However, any time that I have seen such a post, the poster fails to mention a language-learning resource that is
better than FSI. Therefore, one can only conclude that the method used by FSI is the most effective; or, if it is
not, then no one has produced a language-learning product that utilizes a more effective method.

Read more of the old posts on this forum. Professor Arguelles wrote about successfully learning Spanish with FSI, and that he no longer uses it, because while it works, it's far from the most effective method. He seems to use a combination of Assimil, grammatical study, scriptorium, shadowing, chanting conjugations, etc, without drills or flash cards.

Thank you very much, Volte. This Arguelles person seems rather intelligent!

Regarding that other thread -- I apologize if I over-stepped my bounds when I corrected your minor grammatical
error. I certainly did not want to make any enemies here. Please don't take it the wrong way. I make errors all
the time, and English is my native language.

Don't worry about it. I thought about writing a long post about language change, widely accepted use, and the general decline of this type of distinction in English, but decided not to bother; I didn't take offense, though.

I apologize if my tone made it seem if I had. I was surprised that, as a previous lurker with an interest in the subject, you hadn't come across that post; given that you just seem to be discovering Professor Arguelles' posts, I guess I overestimated how much you'd lurked. Sorry!
