How is this phrase best translated at the start of a sentence ?

I would say, "It turns out that..." but I'm not sure how natural that sounds.

"It turns out ..." is one possibility. "as it happens ..." is another one, but really it would depend a lot on context. I don't think it's possible to give a general answer. Edited by Hencke on 11 June 2009 at 6:56am 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Sounds similar to "risulta" in Italian, which I would most often translate as "It turns out" - but it does depend on context. It can also mean "It's clear that", "It proves to be" or other similar phrases. I don't know if it's exactly the same in Spanish of course...

That is so for Argentina, probably Uruguay too, and also in urban areas and among the younger generation in Mexico, but I'm not sure you need to avoid "coger" in all parts of Latin America. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

It's better to avoid it all together! My friend from Madrid told me, that she had some embarrassing moments using this word, the last one was in Cuba. Now she is laughing and said, that she should forget this word going to Latin America. She is a journalist and Latin America was her sphere of interest.
