Hi,
I have started to research on learning Spanish. I wouldn't have opportunity to travel to a Spanish-speaking country yet so I would like to know a good Spanish mp3 that I can put on my ipod and listen to during the day. I want something that covers formal and informal Spanish. I have so far looked at pimsleur but it is said to be too informal. any other suggestions will be helpful
Thanks

Learning Spanish Like Crazy is REALLY good. It's like Pimsleur but to me more natural and comfortable.

Isn't LSLC a bit informal though? They sell it on "real Latin American Spanish", and the differences between Spanish varieties tend to be in the informal registers.
I'd personally recommend Michel Thomas as a good first step. It focuses on giving you a good feel for the structure of the language without getting too bogged down in memorising fixed phrases, so everything you learn can be applied to learning both formal and informal language as you go through the later stages of learning.

It is quite informal but they still teach you how to speak formally also. And I know it gives a lot more vocabulary than Pimsleur. I guess it depends on what he wants.
I hear lots of good out of Michael Thomas. Is that anything like FSI?

Michel Thomas is a great grammar course. But it absolutely has nothing similar to FSI.
It's a conversation between two students and a Teacher. He explains something and then the students have to use a new construction. They make mistakes and MT gives the more elaborate explanation, so everybody would understand. Sometimes it's annoying, if you got it the first time, but it makes you remember better!
I like the Advanced course better, but you will need the beginner's if you ARE the beginner.
Don't plan to pick up the right Spanish accent from the MT course - it just the grammar and words, not the accent!
But it's a really great course!
Buena suerte!
