I'm afraid I have to question your tutor's assertion that the use of de in después de que is a mistake. If it is, then she needs to contact the Real Academia Española and let them know that their online dictionary is wrong and it would be useful to inform the publishers of every textbook I've looked at so far where the useage is marked as optional: después (de) que The only comment Butt & Benjamin (the most reliable source I have on everything connected with the Spanish language) make is that después que in place of después de que is common in Latin America. If there's one thing I've learnt from studying Spanish to-date is that things that are often stated as "wrong" are in fact "wrong where I come from". Witness the discussions to-date that we've had on the use of le versus lo and you'll understand what I mean. Patuco has already made the same point regarding the use of colegio versus escuela where the latter is used almost exclusively where he lives. Andy. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Okay, so maybe wrong was a bad word choice. What she said was that it still makes sense, but it just sounds wrong, a little bit weird. Like your text books say, it is optional so I think the option where I am right now (Madrid) is to leave it out.
