Tener ganas and querer can both be used when something
is wanted. Is there a regional, politeness, romantic, or other difference in meaning between tener ganas and querer? For instance, do these two phrases mean the same thing, or is there a some distinctions that can be made? Tengo ganas de verte. Quiero verte. Quisiera is a subjunctive conjugation of querer that I understand is more polite than "quiero". There is also "gustaría", a conditional form of gustar. "Tengo ganas de verte" is a stronger feeling of want than "Quiero verte".
You might say to your wife: "Tengo muchísimas ganas de verte mañana" = I am longing to see you tomorrow You might say to your employee: "Quiero verte en mi oficina inmediatamente" = I want to see you in my office immediately

I prefer the second version, even when being polite, e.g. "Me gustaría que usted viera como esta creciendo mi hijo" = I wish you (polite) could see how my son is growing. Sounds more natural to me. 1 person has voted this message useful |
