How do you say "she was beautiful"?

Use "era" better, i.e. "ella era guapa".
You can use "fue" but it's an older past tense than "era" (if that makes sense!). NOTE: Beautiful things are "bonito/a" but beautiful people are "guapo/a". Edited by patuco on 23 November 2005 at 4:40pm 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Aha, so fue would be for a long long time ago..
So it's better to use era then. I didn't know there was a female form for guapo. So you can say guapa to a woman. There is also bella, what is the difference? (How do you pronunce bella? Beja?) 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Try it on a Spanish woman and see!
The difference is similar to "lovely", "beautiful", "gorgeous", etc., i.e. different words for the same thing. P.S. Bella, yes as far as I know means beautiful also. Por ejemplo: La vida es bella (Life is beautiful) And for prononciation I heard it like Beya. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||
