I went to Norway for the first time after Christmas this year and it was amazing :) We
stayed in Oslo and I was amazed by what a beautiful city it was. It felt really safe too. I would love to return one day and explore more of the country.

We did struggle with the prices though. I knew it would be expensive before we went but
even so I was taken aback by the cost of basic groceries. We also didn't realise before
we went that you can only buy wine from Vinmonopolet and that it wasn't going to be open
on New Year's Eve, so we had a rather sober New Year ;)

I am happy you enjoyed the experience, and I think people need to actually experience the prices before they
are able to grasp them. For those of us who live here the prices are a bit more acceptable because the
wages are also high, but unfortunately not high enough for us to be able to go out as much as you can in
Spain or in the US. Part of our social life is shaped in a way to work around the high costs. Mostly you invite
people home, instead of going out, and the students will get almost drunk before they leave their home, so
that the one drink you must buy at the over prized disco, will put you nicely over the edge.

Even at my age you can invite people to a party and ask them to bring some food and whatever they want to
drink. It is far less common than when I was a student, but it still happens :-)

Next time you come, get in touch with me!

Norway are not in the EU, but the country is very nice. Sweden are best for immigration
to get EU freedom of movement since they are in the EU is true. They are probably rivals,
Norway and Sweden, but I doubt that it is like the UK/USA, England/Australia, PRC/Taiwan,
PRK/ROK, USA/Canada, Argentina/Uruguay, etc.

Afaik you get that in Norway too. At least as a European Citizen your freedom of
movement includes Norway, so it probably also applies in the other direction.

I am not sure of the rules, but probably. But for immigrants round the world, i.e.
Cuba,
Argentina, Pakistan, Singapore, USA, perhaps Sweden's being in the EU gives something
extra.

Also Norway have someone that can make them very proud:

Jeg elsker Norge! (Jeg bor der). I highly recommended making a trip to Norwayto all of the HTLAL members; and to counter the 'con' of Norway's elevated cost of living you can eat frugally and buy alcohol in Sweden.

I've been learning Norwegian since 2012 and it's by far my favourite language and country. I'm literally in love with it, although I've never been there. In fact, my
biggest inspiration to begin my studies as a Trekking Guide in Argentina was Norway, and I'm planing to hike the whole country. I love to watch Norwegian TV (Ingen Grenser
was my favourite and extreme inspiring), listen folk music (my weakness is the Hardangerfiddle), hearing and learning about dialectal differences, watching maps and
different hiking routes at UT.no... well, I could go on and on and give 100 reasons why Norway is my favourite country, but I think you've got the
point :)

;)
Guido.
