Hello,
How is the Dutch 'r' pronounced? I think I've heard it as a "trilled" r (as in Spanish) and also pronounced more in the throat (more like German). I know in words such as 'naar' and 'maar' it's similar to an English 'r'.
How does the 'r' differ depending on dialect? Flemish vs standard Dutch, South-Netherlands Dutch vs Amsterdam Dutch.
Thanks!

Except for the guttural sounds, the r sounds are the biggest difference between Flemish (as in: Dutch spoken in Belgium) and Dutch (as spoken in The Netherlands)
In my opinion the r sounds in Dutch are generally speaking quite like those in English, while the Flemish r's are most of the time either "trilled" (a rolling r as we call it, I speak this way) or pronounced more in the throat (as you said).
I'll try and get hold of a microphone ASAP to upload a sound file to illustrate this, and then maybe a fellow forum member from The Netherlands can try and do the same.
