In my school we do not focus at all about pronunciation of latin. If a particular sound doesn't exist in English, we find the closest alternative, ie: we pronounce "r" as the English r.

I think that's rather lazy of the teachers and it fails to show the proper respect for the language, but unfortunately, that attitude is all too common among schools.

Yeah, it'd be cool to be able to speak with the actual pronunciation. She told us that she learned latin because she's bad with foreign languages (she doesn't like trying to learn new sounds). She's obsessed with ancient rome, however, so we focus a lot on culture and reading old latin manuscripts, and later, epics.
