Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away. I lived in Pakistan for 15 months. While I was there I studied Urdu and became moderately fluent. At least, fluent enough to travel around the country meet all my survival needs. I lived primarily in a Pashto speaking area so I did not hear Urdu being spoken all around me all the time (which would have been a great help in learning it). Since then, apart from odering chapattis and hot curry in Pakistani restaurants I have not had much opportunity to speak it. My listening comprehension is still pretty good because I can understand a lot of dialogue in Hindi movies.

Anyway, I have need to study Urdu again and I would like relearn it "bahut jaldi" (real quick). I did a search on other posts and found some interesting web links. But nothing specifically about streamlining the learning process. When I studied in Pakistan with native tutors, the style was rote memorization and translation from English to Urdu. I have no desire to go back and do that again. Surely somebody must know some shortcuts as well as good Urdu learning materials. Can anybody help? Shukria

If you were pretty good at one point, then you probably need authentic Urdu media, rather than courses.

I would recommend you go to: http://www.scola.org

And download all the Insta-Classes for Urdu. These are real news broadcasts, with transcripts in Urdu (and English translations).

You need a password, but Google "scola.org" and you should find one.
