In this corner, we have the Finnish/Swedish tango with their ä and ö.

And in the other corner, we have the Dano-Norwegian tag team with their æ and ø.

Pick and choose your favorite!

P.S. Icelandic spelling disqualified for being just rehash medieval spelling.

I prefer swedish as a language, but I definitely prefer the æ and the ø

:)

the icelandic ð has to be the prettiest letter in the world. My English O's often look like that for some reason.

I choose the Dano-Norwegian tag team but for purely personal reasons.

I've always liked the æ and the ø, but since I study Icelandic I also get the ö, ý, ð, and þ. :D

I know ä and ö from German of course, but I'm a fan of æ and ø ;)

Modern Icelandic has the letter 'ö', but in Old Norse texts you will find 'ọ' (an o with a cedille). So on this point Icelandic isn't rehashing medieval spelling.

I don't really like æ. I think it may be because I was once typing with a Norwegian keyboard to a Norwegian person, and threw in some of my usual random letter combinations to express fatigue or desperation, or in this case perhaps denial, such as "nääääää" in Swedish, which with this keyboard turned into "nææææææ" and I got "you make me think of a drunk Dane" in reply from my Norwegian friend. Somehow, that changed my relationship to that letter, and I therefore choose the ä/ö camp.
