I've recently uploaded three recitations of mine of Alexander Pushkin's poetry in Russian. I would have liked to upload these files in the "Sounds" directory on this very site, but all of my files ended up being greater than 500KB, so I put these files on mypodcast.com instead.

The poems I recited here were Птичка, К... (Керн), and Демон. I listened to a native recitation of each poem and noted the stress of the individual words while reciting them myself (though upon re-listening to my recitations I did make some mistakes). I enjoy the flow of foreign-language poetry that accentuates the meaning of the words. I've been studying Russian for several years and I still have times in daily conversation where I trip up and stumble on tricky words, but I find that reading poems out loud in this way and trying to get a smooth dictation is beneficial. Does anyone else agree?

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum - since this specifically deals with Russian, I figured that it should go here.

The 3 recitations are on this page.

Hi there. I think you have done a pretty good job. I think you have a good feel for intonation and things like that. And your "R" is pretty good, which is good, as "R" is something that would be an issue with stereotypical American accent. I think you were even overdoing it a little at one point when you said "кррасоты" :)

Anyways, the American accent is noticeable, and I will just point out a couple of things:

-your ы is inconsistent. It seems like you get it right about 70% of the time. So you say 'things like 'милие черты', as opposed to 'милые черты'

-palatalization is probably the most noticeable issue. "Передо", "мраке", "сердце ", "гений ", "надежд " - those, among others, sounded off due to lack of palatalization, I think. Sometimes it feels like you get a certain consonant right some times, but not others.

-some endings were a bit off, like 'прекрасние' instead of 'прекрасное' or 'Твои' instead of 'Твой', etc.

Thank you for the commentary, Russian bear!

It's always useful to get feedback from a native speaker. I actually noticed a few of those mistakes after I listened to my recording, although at that point I didn't want to re-record. As far as the Russian "r", actually, the reason I overexaggerated it was because I was trying to imitate the way I heard a native speaker recite it.
