I'm asking this question here because I want to know it from someone who has already gone through the German learning process.
I'm getting discouraged, mostly because I feel like I'm not progressing as fast as I want to, and really, I don't know how except to be learning more vocab. I'm kinda going slow in my Living Language German because I don't want to learn vocab. However, my pimsleur is continuing at a one unit per day.
Anyyywwaaayyy. My question is, after about 11 days, how much should I know? I know I should be at a very basic level, but how much should I know? And, at what point will, well, should I start be seeing significant improvements?

Skip Pimsleur and do Michel Thomas, I was discouraged too with my Language learning until I got Michel Thomas and after the first lesson. I really felt like I was learning something.

PM me your email address and I can send you my list of "must know" words. The above poster was 100% correct about MT.It seems like 5 lessons is like an entire year of college German.

I'm currently going over the MT German language builder and progress is good. I'm just starting to listen to real German and some German music. What I've learnt so far I hear and even get the gist of some things. I've been studying for 3 months or so but half an hour maximum a week-day. Pimsleur is like pulling teeth.

MT is excellent. A very good discovery. I'm not that much a fan of Living Language until you start hitting about lesson 10, so stick with it.
2.5 years later I'm B2+ level. So work on it.

I must be the only one who enjoys Pimsleur.. If you enjoy then it CERTAINLY doesn't do any harm to add it.
I like MT at the beginning but if you're really advanced then it's hard to get into. I'd say if you're going to do MT then don't wait! Start ASAP
You actually sound a lot like me; if they're not daily lessons then I don't have anything to push me. That's why I like Assimil, Pimsleur, etc. I HAVE to finish 1 a day, and after about a month I just look back and think "Wow, I didn't even know how to say thank you or hello and now.. "
=)

I agree Rout; I meant that MT is for the biginning to get a foundation.
And, yes, I'm a fan of Assimil, but less so of Pimsleur because of the language switching.
