Livemocha.com is not so boring, and also teaches you vocab, but in a more interesting way than most places. I've used it for other languages and it's great. Don't give up on German, it's a great language, I've studied it for 5 years and I love it!!! Good luck!

I thought MT German was fantastic. I never really planned on learning German, but I
loved the other MT courses so I decided to give it a shot. He does ignore the case
system, which surprises me as the declension of articles and adjectives follows the
sort of logic that MT is good at teaching. The Assimil course is good for filling in
the gaps though. I also tried L-R which was good at helping my passive understanding
of the language, even though it can be a rather controversial topic round these
parts:)
